BCTWS conference 2024
As the globe heats wildfires, are spreading in intensity and frequency. British Columbia is seeing record fires, and more is in the future under climate change forecasts. How does fire affect our wildlife, and the landscapes upon which they depend?
Join us in beautiful Kamloops, British Columbia, March 13-16 for the BCTWS's 3rd Annual Conference, Wildlife in a Burning World. Building on the success of our last BCTWS conference in Victoria in 2023 (with over 200 attendees), the 3rd Annual Conference will bring together students and professionals to meet, interact, and share information about research, current and changing issues, and emerging challenges.
The Conference will feature a keynote speaker, panel discussions focused on emerging changes to wildlife management in Canada, and of course, contributed oral presentations and posters. There will be social events in the evenings and networking opportunities galore in between sessions.
We are a fun, inclusive, big-tent crowd who want to meet you so we can learn from each other.

BCTWS CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
PRESENTATIONS
The call for abstracts is now closed and notifications were delivered January 22 2024.
CLICK HERE for helpful hints for presenters.
Please bring your presentation in Microsoft Powerpoint format (.ppt) on a USB drive, and ensure that it is uploaded the morning of your session at the latest.
PRESENTATION TYPES:
1. Rapid fire talks - These 5-minute talks will be the foundation of the conference by
allowing members to quickly communicate activities important to them, thereby creating
greater opportunities to stimulate discussion during breaks.
2. Contributed Research – These talks are to be 12 minutes long, with 3 minutes for questions.
They focus on the conference theme and showcase completed research or wildlife science or
relevant policy topics that highlight connections between sectors.
The goal of longer talks is to provide in-depth information to a wide-range of users. We
envision only having room for a few of these submissions, but please let us know if you
have an idea.
3. Contributed Posters – Would you rather talk to people one-on-one about your project,
then the poster session is for you! This is your opportunity to meet with attendees at
your poster to discuss research progress, findings, or implications. Posters will
be displayed for the duration of the conference.
